Wednesday June 18th, 2014-Finally Some Rain Today!

It is raining as I write. The garden plots are now all allocated. We are beginning to clean up the hill and lots of flowers are blooming. I met a woman on the #6 bus from downtown yesterday and she shared a great idea for the garden. She uses cinder blocks as an edge and plants veggies, herbs and flowers in the holes. I am going to try it. I'm working at getting rid of railroad ties. I believe there are residue chemicals still in the ties. I will replace borders with the cinder blocks next season. Butterflies and dragonflies are showing up in numbers now. Below we'll begin with a new garden on the hill. Mary is terracing and her son Goodwin made the nifty sign for the pumpkin patch. We'll highlight a gardener with each blog.
